The Bugsplat Chronicles, The Saga Continues 29 Dreams and Barber Sports Museum
Our plan for Sunday was to dry run the “Bikers for Boobies” ride to 29 Dreams planned for October then meet our group for a tour of the Barber Motorsports Museum in Leeds, AL. We had a nice ride on mostly back roads with limited interstate driving on our trip over to 29 Dreams in Vandiver, AL arriving while they were still serving the breakfast buffet.
29 Dreams bills itself as the nation’s only “Motorcycle Country Club” and is well worth a visit. They have camping and cabins, a motoshop, a shop for clothing and apparel, and a nice lounge with good food and drink and there are always other bikers hanging around telling tales of the road. We hung around for about an hour just checking things out and waiting on the breakfast buffet to be over so we could order lunch. There are 19 miles of good twisty riding on AL 25 but Bob will not venture down the Columbiana side of the mountain because of previous bad experiences (see Chronicles: Near Murder in Columbiana).
It’s only about 9 miles from 29 Dreams to the Barber Museum so we arrived there ahead of our group and began looking around. What can one say about this amazing collection?
Cellfone certainly enjoyed it and we can’t see what Bugsplat is doing with his hand but he seemed to enjoy it also.

The Dwarf Non-N-Off was more interested in the action on the track than looking at motorcycles in the museum so we let him do that. He has turned into a good riding partner having ridden so many miles with Bugsplat. The only special rules on my bike are that he can’t f*rt on the seat and no gum allowed.
During our time in the museum he remained mostly plastered to the window dreaming he was out there riding around the track on his dirt bike.
We met our group inside the museum and spent some time chatting with everyone and looking at the various bikes.
 Mia and Wizard
This one had a wooden chain!
My favorite with a Wankel rotary engine!
We had a brisk ride down the interstate and US 78 back from Leeds to Heflin where we left the group. They were stopping for ice cream which is usually a good idea. But on this day Linda had informed me while I was still at the museum that she had a water leak in the kitchen. I could just see my meager supply of foreplay credit leaking away so I opted for the expressway and a quick return home.
With Bugsplat in the lead we blasted toward the State line. The plan was to exit at AL 46 and take the scenic route thru Trickum Valley but “No Turn” Bob obstinately continued past our turn only to trap us in a huge traffic jam due to an accident just past the Georgia State Welcome Center. We turned off our bikes and wandered around the expressway visiting with the people near us while we watched a State Patrol car, a Sherriff’s car, 3 ambulances, and a fire truck work their way to the scene of the accident. After about 42 minutes with no sign of a wrecker we decided to use the superior maneuverability of our bikes to work our between cars to the median and head back west until we could find a place to cross which we did at the state line. From there it was a straight shot down to the next exit and back roads to home.
