Subject: emergency info
Heaven forbid you're ever involved or injured in any type of accident, motorcycle related or not. But as we all know, accidents do happen and if it happens to you would the authorities know who and how to contact your family?

At a minimum, every SCRC member should provide an emergency contact in their member profile at
www.scrcnational.com. Should there be a need to contact someone, the First, State and Regional Officers can access the roster and get this information. Members can edit their own roster information and keep it updated by going to www.scrcnational.com. Click on "Member Login". Enter their member number and password and click on "Edit profile".

Also, consider making yourself a
Medical ID Wallet Card. You can do this for FREE at MedIDs.com. You simply fill out an online form and print as many cards as you want. MedIDs does not store or keep your information and having used this site for many years myself, I feel it's completely safe. Print several cards, one for your wallet, one for your saddlebags, and one for you cage. http://medids.com/free-id.php

While many, including myself, use ICE (In Case of Emergency) in our cell phones, a cell phone is not the most reliable source for information. If your cell phone gets crushed, or lost during an accident, or if the emergency responders can not operate your type of phone for whatever reason, ICE will be worthless to you. For this reason, ICE should only be used in addition to a paper copy of your emergency contact information.

Now that I've convinced you to create some sort of emergency contact information, put it on your calender (right now) to review this information again in 6-12 months.

Ride Safe.

The Bugsplat Chronicles – A Smashing Weekend

The Saga Continues

Saturday Bugsplat and I decided to ride south to visit Sprewell’s Bluff State Park and to take David to Yoder’s Dietsch Restaurant in Montezuma for lunch and to shop for a Mennonite virgin for his son Jeff. We hooked up in Newnan and I led an uneventful ride to Sprewell’s Bluff near Thomaston. This is a beautiful and remote state park. According to the GPS, the bluffs towered 301 feet above parking lot down at the river level. The road to the bottom was suitably entertaining. There were no amenities at the park other than a gravel parking lot and an outhouse. The silence and the scenery were beautiful. We were joined by the local park constabulary demanding the $3 parking fee. After paying and chatting briefly, we were back on the road toward Yoder’s.

Bugsplat led the way with his traditional explorative nature. We missed the first turnoff and turned around and came back to it after several miles. This road led thru an absolutely uninhabited South Georgia forest and was very relaxing. We again took the wrong road once we were in Montezuma and wound up a few miles from the Iron Angels Campground in Unidilla before we recognized our error and retraced our path. Iron Angels were just not the type of Babes we were helping Dave select.

Bugsplat Joins the USO

The Bugsplat Chronicles – The Sage Continues

About 2 weeks ago I received an e-mail from a returning rider who had read some of the Bugsplat Chronicles. He knows someone who knows me and wondered if he could meet Bugsplat. We talked and I discovered he was recently retired military doing a little riding before settling down and looking for a job. He also is retiring along the southern reaches of the Outer Banks which is on next year’s trip agenda so I secured Bugsplat’s approval and agreed to meet him for a ride of the Cherahola Skyway and Wayah Rd.

The directions to the meeting place were simple – meet at the first gas station on TN 68 north of US 64. If I had known the guy was a former officer I would have made it easier for him! He went south and we wound up hooking up in Tellico Plains 2 hours past the appointed time.

Breaking in the Venture – The Bugsplat Chronicles

The Saga Continues

Needing to check out Bugsplat’s new ride, we set out on a journey covering 4964 miles, 20 States, the District of Columbia and 5 Canadian Provinces. There was no fixed route or schedule except to return to Carrollton within 9 days. We actually spent 7 ½ days on the road.

Day 1 was about getting north. We passed thru Atlanta in a light rain that vanished as we moved north of the city. Then it was clear sailing until we stopped for lunch in north central NC. Here we decided to do some flower sniffing so we took a right turn in southern VA and ambled past farms and fields to Norfolk where we crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel to the Delmarva Peninsula. This engineering marvel is approximately 23 miles long over and under the Chesapeake Bay. It consists mostly of a low trestle structure interrupted by 2 tunnels of approximate 1 mile length each under major shipping channels and two high level bridges over other shipping channels. The Delmarva Peninsula was different than expected. One would think a coastal area this near major population centers would be infested with condominiums but instead it is mostly farming. We saw truck loads of tomatos too green to make fried green tomatos on their way to the ripening sheds and also a few chicken houses. We stopped for the night in southern Maryland and found excellent clams and such.

29 Dreams and Barber Sports Museum

Our plan for Sunday was to dry run the “Bikers for Boobies” ride to 29 Dreams planned for October then meet our group for a tour of the Barber Motorsports Museum in Leeds, AL. We had a nice ride on mostly back roads with limited interstate driving on our trip over to 29 Dreams in Vandiver, AL arriving while they were still serving the breakfast buffet.

Memphis Rally Princess Diaries

The tale of four days, five states (yes we ate in every one!) and lots of Southern Cruisers at the SCRC National Rally in Memphis.

 A Cloudy Start

The SCRC National Rally in Memphis Tennessee is always an exciting event.  This year there was reason for more excitement because the West GA Chapter was going to have a major contingent going to the rally.  Everyone met at the agreed upon site, QT on 278 in Dallas, and we departed promptly at 9:13am.  The sky was gray and foreboding as the group of 18 bikes headed west on Hwy 278.  Spucketts had planned on meeting us but called at the last minute to report he was chasing his dogs thru the neighborhood (they must have been looking for new friends) and would be running late but would catch up along the way.  Wiz led the way right into the rain and by Cedartown, we had to stop.  He pulled us into the only covered area he could find (a mud hole of a closed gas station) and everyone donned their rain gear, except Candycane, who is tougher than most.  We headed back out in the rain and got into Alabama, near Gadsden before the rain stopped.  The route that Wiz picked was far more scenic than the “Future I-22 Corridor/Corridor X” and the ride was pleasant.  We learned at lunch that somehow Spucketts had passed us and was about 50 miles ahead of us.  We finally found him in Corinth, Mississippi which is a “Certified Retirement Community”.

Bugsplat and I set out to join the rest of the West Georgia crew who were already in Memphis for the Southern Cruisers National Rally. We followed the standard route to Memphis and can report that Mississippi is exactly one tank of gas across. If it had been another 200 yards wide we would have been walking. Other than that and one little incident where a woman complimented Bugsplat on his bike, the trip over was uneventful. Somehow “Nice A**” does not seem an appropriate response to “Nice Bike.”  I try to provide adult supervision but sometimes he’s just too quick.

The Bugsplat Saga – The Chronicle Continues

A Damp Good Time-KY SCRC Rally

Due to work commitments the calloused butt gang got a late start but that was really no problem as Kavinator’s bike has a warp speed. We had been appointed by the Princess to serve as West Georgia Ambassadors to the SCRC KY State Rally. Our mission was to eliminate their weapons of mass destruction and return with fair young damsels for Spuckett’s inspection.
